5-Star Award of Excellence

For the first time in several years, Delta Psi achieved five-star status in the school’s Greek community.  Fraternities and sororities are evaluated each year by the Dean of Students Office and ranked on a scale of one to five stars, one star representing poor standing and five stars representing excellent standing.  There are currently 30 fraternities on campus.  Six of them achieved five-star status: Sigma Chi, Chi Phi, Delta Phi, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Theta, and Theta Xi.  Thirteen fraternities received four-star status while another six received three stars.  Five fraternities received no rank because they either failed to submit an application or were on suspension.  Sigma Chi won a special award for excellence in Chapter Standards and Membership Accountability.  The chapter's performance in Greek Relations warranted honorable mention.

The expansion of the chapter’s campus involvement was essential to winning five-star recognition.  Three brothers were inducted into the Order of Omega this year, an organization that selects its members from the top 3% of campus Greeks.  Brother Isaac Nault ’12 was recently elected to Vice President of the Order, demonstrating Sigma Chi leadership not only inside the chapter but also in the Greek community.  Our brothers functioned as leaders in the non-Greek community as well.  Arunesh Ghosh ’12 worked as a Student Orientation advisor last summer, where he guided admitted students through their first course registrations.  Arunesh also served as co-President of RPI’s Indian Dance Team, a club he founded during his freshman year.  Former Risk Manager Seth Wagner ’12 served as Vice President of the RPI Paintball Team.  These brothers, in addition to others, serve as role models in the RPI community.  They help cast Sigma Chi in a more positive light each day.

Earning the Five-Star Award of Excellence has been Delta Psi’s goal for many years, and we would not have received it without the support of our alumni.  Older alums provided us with their wisdom and advice, while more recent grads passed onto us a firm foundation upon which to succeed.  Winning the award was a team effort.  Now we must begin work on winning it again.
