This page shows the charities which our chapter supports through fundraising events, such as Derby Days, during the school year.
The Huntsman Cancer Institute, located in Salt Lake City, is one of the nation's leading research centers for finding a cure. By understanding cancer at a molecular level, new treatments can be developed and applied successfully.
The money our chapter raises goes to Huntsman Cancer Institute because we believe in the work they are doing and because cancer has touched every one of our lives.
Our chapter holds charity events, such as our haunted house for Halloween or our coffee and donut sales, throughout the school year.
But in addition to those, Sigma Chi is famous for coordinating Derby Days as a massive fundraising effort. Local sororities and student groups form teams that compete in a week long event to raise money for Huntsman's. The event culminates on the last day, a "derby" where all the teams participate in games to help determine the overall Derby winner.
Last school year, our small group accumulated almost 1000 man-hours of community service and raised over $700 for Hunstman Cancer Institute and over $1000 for the American Cancer Society. Our 9/11 Blood Drive collected 95 donations, 15 more than our goal of 80. These helped 255 patients. |
